The world were flat. And not an oblique spheroid like we now* know it to be. I feel we would live in a much better society. Not that I condone segregation in anyway but I feel the seperateness a flat earth would offer would be of great advantage to those of whom just can't get along. Lands would have greater overall expanse and offer a much more eye pleasing view. Tall things which we could reach the top of would be greatly popular. Not that they're not already of course, but, think of the distance our relatively pathetic eyesight could reach if land didn't curve away out of view, the distant detail would be astonishing.
The fact that distant land would be in the hypothetical world more distant could mean, that there are still vast undiscovered spaces. An exciting prospect for myself. If there's anything missing from past societies that I wish to be in our own modern society it's exploration, seems like a dead fun job to me! wehey! Of course I am completely aware there are explorers in the modern day. But I hate to break it to you guys, its not quite the same is it? No.
Finally, the greatest thing about a flat earth would of course be: an incredible air powered underground international traffic system. Using large air tight cylinders that either lay completely underground or protrude the surface just a smidgen, a huge electro magnetic disc would sit inside said cylinder, when electricity flows through it, it magnetises to the ceiling of the cylinder, however when the electricity ceases to flow; the disk drops, forcing air through series of underground tunnels. The underground tunnels of course host any number of passenger trains being forced around by the air pressure. The kinetic energy caused by the trains upon the sides of tunnels could then be stored to power both on board entertainment systems as well as the obvious lighting, electric massage seats and other stuff. Some of this energy could of course be transfered up to the surface to power the giant-electromagnetic-pneumatic-pistons. Though, obviously, it could never be imagined that the trains could reach such speeds in order to create enough energy to power the amount of pistons needed to create an entire international transportation grid. So power for the pistons would also have to come from elsewhere. Junctions would be a problem, my suggestion to overcome this would be to have some tunnels at different heights so they can simply travel above and below one and other. However, our hypothetical flat earth may not be deep enough so, a giant valve like system could be used to close off a currently unused tunnel and make way for an on coming train traveling down its adjoined tunnel, becuase the last thing we would want is all the air pressure escaping the wrong way down the junctions. OK, so finally in my imaginary worlds transport system, safety, usually I would think safety first, but seen as this is all a fantasy; Safety Last. A huge problem would of course be the potential to get trapped underground. To solve this I suggest that the pneumatic pistons are all within walking distance of each other, then they can double up as "Escape to Surface Hatches". At points in which the tunnels go beneath the sea, well, we'll just have to provide emergency oxygen masks and hope that everyone's a fucking good swimmer / giant octopus gladiators.
Anyhoo, I feel this kind of transportation system would not spoil the earths surface with blocks of horrible grey, nor would it emit horrible grey clouds into the atmosphere, assuming of course the earth would have a similar atmosphere if it weren't round.
Other than other obvious safety precautions I've overlooked, I think it would be a pretty flawless plan.
Bi.
*Not that "we" ever thought it to be flat. Indeed it may be myth that it was ever a broadly thought concept, though I'm sure no-one can say for certain.
